If you’ve never been to The Big E, you’re missing out on one of New England’s best traditions. Happening September 12–28, 2025 in West Springfield, Massachusetts, The Big E is the world’s only multi-state fair, celebrating all six New England states in one place. Think of it as a harvest festival, state fair, craft show, and food adventure all rolled into one—complete with parades, concerts, livestock, rides, and more fried dough than you can imagine.
Vermont Flannel has been part of The Big E for decades, and every year we bring our very best to share with visitors from near and far. You’ll find us in our beautiful post & beam building, packed wall-to-wall with the softest flannels you’ve ever felt. Meet Gilbert: A Big E Exclusive
Every year, we design a limited-release plaid just for Big E fairgoers. This year’s pattern is called Gilbert, and it comes with a story worth telling.
The plaid was inspired by the Gilbert Farmstead, a 1794 farmhouse that was the first building reconstructed at Storrowton Village, right on the Eastern States Exposition fairgrounds where The Big E takes place. The farmhouse itself was built with hand-hewn timbers and wide-plank floors, and it’s still filled with history—original woodworking, old family artifacts, and even a scallop-shelf corner cabinet that always seems to catch visitors’ eyes.
We took the federal-style architecture, colors, and spirit of that historic home and wove them into Gilbert. It’s our way of letting you carry a piece of New England history into your everyday life—whether you wear it, wrap up in it, or gift it to someone you love.
