A Drive Around Ferrisburgh, Vermont

A Drive Around Ferrisburgh, Vermont

If you are in the neighborhood, on one of these crisp fall days, and unsure of how to spend your day in the town of Ferrisburgh, I have a few suggestions to provide you with a day that gives you both an outdoor and local feel.

To begin the day, as the fog slowly rolls off the roadways, you could head to Mount Philo State Park. The park was established in 1924 and from it you can stroll through the woods or gaze at the Adirondacks and Lake Champlain that loom in the distance. The park has a variety of trails, campgrounds, and the great-outdoor simplicity of offering you a chance to escape from the humdrum buzz of city life into a place that is bound to lift your already soaring spirits.

After gallivanting through nature, you are presumably thirsty, in which case you could travel on to Charlotte Village Winery located at 3968 Greenbush Rd, Charlotte, VT 05445. There are tastings everyday from 11am-6pm, you can try handcrafted fruit wines of Vermont including a blueberry wine made from their own vineyard!

If you are looking to duck in from the outdoors or to purchase another handcrafted product of Vermont, head to The Vermont Flannel Company located at 5467 Vermont Route 7, Ferrisburgh, VT 05456, hours are Monday through Thursday 9:00-5:00, Friday, Saturday is 9:00-6:00, and Sunday is 10:00-5:00. Vermont Flannel™ makes any day a little spicier with comfort and the robust feelings of even while travelling being somewhere akin to home. Button-down shirts, lounge pants, hats and scarves are all available, and maybe even a few flannel things that you haven’t thought of. Don’t forget to walk through Vermont Flannel’s covered bridge !!!

After picking through merchandise, drive on over to Dakin Farm 5797 Route 7, Ferrisburgh, VT 05456-9798 where you can peruse through a variety of maple and delicious food products including maple delicacies. Treats to fill your belly, or car! Since Vermont is the leading producer of maple syrup in the United States, it is a must to try some on your visit.

If you’re looking to wind down after your outdoor and hand-crafted adventures, you could happen on the Starry Night Cafe 5371 US-7, Ferrisburgh, VT 05456. The cafe is described as a cozy rustic eatery with locally sourced fare and craft cocktails that I am sure will satisfy the palate.

Are you a history buff? You should visit the Rokeby Museum, 4334 US-7, Ferrisburgh, VT 05456, open every day from 10-5. The Rokeby Museum is an eighteenth century farmstead that used to be a home for the Robinson family, and today is one of the best-documented Underground Railroad sites in the country. The scenery surrounding the museum is pastoral and you can look at artifacts and belongings of the family for more than 200 years.

These are only some suggestions, there is a lot to do both in and out of doors in Ferrisburgh, however, these places do give you the nature side of Vermont along with the handcrafted and lived side which is something that Vermonters do hold dear. Enjoy your day!
